Ok, I think I have a handle on this ... but could very well be wrong.
I'm running a BOOTP server on an Alpha (would prefer DHCP, but haven't
found a MSWindows-based client & Trumpet Winsock doesn't seem to work).
So far, no major problems. We've recently added a new group of class
C addresses and have begun serving them via BOOTP. The daemon.log file
is apparently telling me that the server replies, but can not ARP the
client (as the server is in the old class C).
Aug 15 10:57:08 cmi bootpd[375]: ioctl(SIOCSARP): Network is unreachable
I get one of those for each of the new client accesses. Is it possible
to load a dummy interface that would allow the machine to ARP both nets
successfully?? I have a Linux BOOTP server that is multi-homed, so I'm
not seeing the same problem there - but there are other BOOTP related
problems on our network, so I can't enable the same level of logging on
that machine.
Dummy interface?? Dummy manager (and there's something I've missed)???
