If a user has csh as the default shell and has access to - but does not own -
the .login file, the .login file will not execute! This is contrary to the
way sh works - sh executes .profile as long as you have access to it - and
contrary to the way csh works on ULTRIX. What gives? Is this a bug or did
DEC change the behaviour of csh without telling anyone (Or did I just miss
something in the release notes?)?
In any event, is there any way around this limitation? I have groups of users
who share .login files. I'd hate to have to give each one their own .login
or have to switch them to sh but I can't seem to find an alternative (By the
way, putting the .login in /etc doens't work either but at least that
restriction/bug is documented).
Thanks in advance.
