Some general points on NIS install

I am about to install MIS on 2 Alpha machines(master and slave)
and have some general queries. Can anyone give advice? We are
running Digital Unix 3.2.
--------------------------------------------------------------

1) In configuring the master server is it necessary to edit
the Makefile to include the domainname or just to leave it as it is
and let nissetup specify the domain name?

2) We are running with enhanced security. Is it sensible to create
secure and insecure maps and what is the point of doing this?

3) Should NIS be started on the master before the slave is configured?

4) We have 2 machines currently ,one of which is to be the master and
the other the slave, which have a number of local user accounts.
What happens to these accounts on the master? Are they propagated to the
slave?
What happens to these accounts on the slave? Do they remain local to the
slave?

5) Can you disable an NIS account on a specific host while
keeping it enabled on the other hosts in the domain?

6) How often is the slave updated? What does this?

7) Can you use XSysAdmin to to add in NIS accounts?
Does it create the users home filesystem?
If so, does it copy in the default .cshrc and .login files?
Are the home file systems created automatically on all the
hosts in the domain?
If an account is created in this way, must XIsso unlock the account
before the user can log in?

What is the recommended way to add in a new account to an NIS domain
when running with Enhanced security?

8) We envisage initially only configuring a master and one slave? Are
there any problems with this?

9) Is it difficult to abandon NIS and return to the orthodox databases?
How is this done?

10) If you indicate that you want to add a +: to the end
of the local passwd and group files does this mean that all account names
above this are local to this particular host?

11) Is it necessary for nissetup to invoke svcsetup when only
the passwd and group databases are mapped in NIS?

Thanks and sorry about the length of this.
