Many thanks to all who responded. I was able to locate and install a working
version of a GUI based ftp 10 min after I posted due to many quick responses
and to Larry A. Diegel the first of several quick responders to point me
in the correct direction.

There were several suggestions. The one I chose was xftp it is an awesome package
and can be found at phoenix.ocf.llnl.gov in the llnlxftp directory. There
is also a very nice file manager at this site that was mentioned in many of the
responses it is called llnlxdir. At the risk of killing their server it you have
not tried xftp you should get a copy it is great! It even worked correctly
with our ftp pass through server. Several others suggested that I try
Freeport Express the Sun to Digital UNIX translator.
I am a big fan of both DECmigrate ( Ultrix -> to Digital Unix ) and Freeport
but unfortunately the application needs to run on MLS+ ( Secure Digital unix )
and freeport is not currently supported in this version. I also received a
pointer to the real mftp which can befound at /contrib/applications/moxftp-2.2.tar.Z

Thanks again to all who responded.
