Currently we are running OSF V2.0 on a DEC 3000-600. Via a serial port on
this system and a dial-up modem we connect occasionally to the Internet via
a service provider.
Most or all of the users on our network are PC-users.
The procedure to dial-out and setup the modem connection is completely manual:
# tip internet
...
<username>
<password>
~! (Going to a sub-shell)
# ifconfig sl0 up
# slattach tty01 38400
# exit
~. (Now I disconnect from tip. This gives some errors because
slip has taken the tty01 port, but I don't mind)
..... < Internet session > ....
# <ctrl-C> (Disconnect the modem)
Isn't there a more convenient way to have this dial-out connection done?
I have found already an application DIALUP20, which transparantly makes the
dialout and slip-connection. This would be perfect for me, but I haven't found
yet a version ported to Alpha OSF.
Who can help me?
A novice system manager.
