Hello.
Thanks to everyone who supplied me with speedy answers.
It seems that a linux machine across the hall was running routed -s,
and was advertising as a default gateway. Fixing the flags in her
rc.net fixed the problem (hopefully for good..)
Also, I saw the routing tables with netstat -r. Maybe the man page for
that should have the word 'route' in the whatis line. =)
Now I have another question -- how can I get my alpha to ignore those
advertisements in the future? I'm pretty sure this is possible, since
the alpha is the only machine that freaked out on me.
Thanks,
.dave
PS, my apologies to those who responded for my failure to give them
public credit. Besides, I've always wanted to say: "Thank
you. Wherever you are."
