Subject: SUMMARY: Problem with telnet under OSF-1
Thank you to everybody. Everyday I like more and more this list.
My original problem was:
Making a telnet to the OSF-1 I got the following reply :
telnetd: all network ports in use
The answer is 'I need to create more pttys' I follow your sugestions
First I verified my OSF-1 licence to see if it was licence problem
it is for unlimited users.
Second, I check the kernel parameters to see the amount of pttys the
system is supporting right now. The number supported was the default
of 255 pttys. I verify in /dev and found only 32 pttys created.
(ptyp0-ptypf and ptyq0-ptyqf). Those were created during system installation.
Finally, I did the following:
as root:
#cd /dev
#./MAKEDEV pty2 pty3
and 32 more pttys were created. So the problem was solved I got more
than 32 people connected using telnet.
(The syntax of pty2 and pty3 should be as is because pty0 and pty1 created
the ptys that already exists on the system during installation.)
Thank you very much
