Hi again, and for those of you on both alpha-oaf and decstation
managers lists, I apologize for the double-post.
I have met with no success in my attempt to use a DEC RWZ52-FA
READ/WRITE Magnetic Optical Drive on a DECstation 5000/240. I
can see the device as either an HP or DEC device at the
>> prompt using the 'cnfg 3' command.
(A switch in the back allows it to be seen as one or the other)
So I can see it before the OS is loaded, and even booting off of
genvmunix I cannot see it during boot, or after boot is complete.
(same goes for vmunix)
I have mounted other DEC disks (RZ55, RZ56) on this machine without
trouble at device /dev/rz1c.
I know I'm getting something trough because before I get the
"no such device" error I do see a quick flash on the RWZ52.
I have tried a few scripts that were sent along in response to
my first two requests. They too gave a flash, but the result was the
same, ie the kernel is convinced there is no device there.
So if someone in OSF or ULTRIX land has come across this problem
with an RWZ52 on an Ultrix machine (I am running Ultrix 4.4), please
let me know what the story is.
I would particularly be interested in hearing from DEC employees
familiar with DEC hardware that is compatible with Ultrix.
Many thanks, I will summarize if I get an answer.
