slip question

hello. i am having a problem getting a slip connection to work from a
pc to an alpha running (osf/1) unix 3.2c. first, is slattach broken?
i am trying to move it from an ultrix decstation, where it was running
fine.

here is what i did: i added an appropriate line to /etc/inittab:

tty01:23:respawn:/usr/sbin/getty /dev/tty01 38400 vt100

then added a line to /etc/gettydefs:

38400# B38400 HUPCL CS8 # B38400 SANE IXANY TAB3 HUPCL #login: #M2400

i can log into this modem from a pc fine; the tty line is working
properly. then, i type:

% /usr/sbin/slattach /dev/tty01

then set the appropriate network configuration parameters on my pc.
however, it doesn't seem to work. when i ping the alpha from my pc,
there is evidently traffic over the modem in both directions, but
never any "positive" response. i am pretty sure that slip is set up
correctly on my pc, because i can still make a slip connection to
other (non-osf/1) servers.

is there something else i need to configure on the alpha?
