slip question

an update on my slip server setup problem:

i decided to setup up the slip line as documented (what a concept!
:-), by running "slattach tty01 38400" locally as root, and getting
rid of the getty process. now when i dial in, i have an instant slip
connection, and voila! it works!

however, that is not what i want. i would like to have the user
actually have to log in, with a password, and *then* run slattach,
like i did in the "good ole days" of ultrix. :-)

is there any way to do this? i could do modem dialback, or put a
password on the modem itself, but i'd rather not.
