Dear Netland,
I have a pair of 1000 4/233's running Digital UNIX 3.2 that were
bought at the same time and are identical except that one has a single
PCI based scsi controller and the other has 2 PCI based scsi
controllers. They each have an internal scsi buss and two RZ28's as
system disks. They each have 256 mb of swap on rz1 and rz2. They
each have a single 20gb RAID device on the end of each PCI scsi
controller.
The one with a single PCI scsi controller has given me no problems.
The one with 2 PCI scsi controllers behaves poorly. If I don't power
off the system after shutdown and I reboot it, the scsi_cam drivers
can't find the swap device on the second rz28. If I cold boot from a
power off, it finds it with no problem.
Each RAID device is configured as a 20gb C partition and mounted as
/hcc1 and /hcc2. If I tar a file to /hcc1, I have no problem. If I
tar a file into /hcc2, then after 16 mb, the tar hangs (all large
copies hang) and I have to power off the machine to clear it because
the shutdown turns to a blue screen and hangs. It has no problem
doing an fsck of either disk on the controllers.
I think that there is a problem with dual scsi controllers. I know
they had the problem with this in Ultrix, but has anyone got a clue as
to what I am seeing?
Thanks in advance, Keith
