We currently have the same disk problems on two separate machines, after having
them up and running for 14-24 months apiece. Both are running OSF 3.0, revs 347
and 358. Hardware: 3000-600S, and 300-300X. The problem as reported by uerf is
as follows:
EVENT CLASS ERROR EVENT

At first, DEC support had me retrieve a patch. After this was installed, the
problems continued. Now DEC field service is coming with a new disk, which is
supposed to have a later revision of the firmware on the disk. They had earlier
tried to replace the disk, but discovered that it too had the same rev, and they
were unable to update it (using the scu utility, they received an error message
about not enough buffer space).
I have three questions:
1) Has anyone had the problem fixed by a software patch?
2) Has anyone had the problem fixed by a later firmware rev on the disk?
3) Has anyone used scu to update disk firmware?
(The 3000-600S is much older than the -300x. It was originally loaned to us by
DEC marketing when it was just introduced, so it's between 2 and 3 years old.)
