AdvFS and Pathworks Quotas - Future in question!!!

I have been trying to get a problem resolved with DEC concerning disk quotas
on Digital UNIX machines running pathworks. First let me say that we have
found no problem with quotas except if you are accessing the server through
pathworks.

The Pathworks release notes state that UFS quotas are not enforced through
Pathworks. This has forced us to use AdvFS for our Pathworks server whether
we wanted to or not, (we probably would have anyway.) We detected a bug with
the AdvFS quotas where writes by a user to an area with quotas enabled may
erroneously return a successful status. If the quota for the user would be
exceeded, the write will fail. With at least one of our applications,
GroupWise, this allows an archiving function to copy a file, receive a
successful write status, and delete the original without detecting a quota
full condition. The result is the message is lost.

We have just received a pre-release kit from DEC that will hopefully take care
of this problem. If you are having a similar problem, check with Digital
Support for the fix.

If you would like to check for the problem, fill up a share that has a quota
enabled on it. From DOS copy a single file to that share, you should get
the standard confirmation message, "1 file copied". Do a directory and see
if the size of the file is zero. If so, you will have just detected the
problem.

However, I was also given a word of warning from a DEC support person that:

"the next release of Pathworks will fix the bug that allows Pathworks
    to use AdvFS quotas."

That's right! I was told that engineers are looking at ways of implementing
quotas for Pathworks, but that the next release, in all probability will not
support quotas. Future releases may implement something for quotas.

If my information is in error, I apologize. If not, then the next release
will not be used at this site. Quotas are a requirement here!!!
