Hi alpha-osf-managers,
We have purchased an Internet AlphaServer 1000 for our WWW and
Mail server. However, we face some problems we cannot solve.
We are using the Digital Unix Ver 3.2 rel 17.
The questions are:
1) Domain Name Address.
We have successed to create the POP server by using instructions shown
on newsgroup, i.e. we can use Eudora to send and receive mail to, say
dicky_at_cmhk01.cm.com.hk.
However, we would like to apply to the domain name address for every pop
user on the server, i.e. my e-mail address is dicky_at_cm.com.hk instead of
dicky_at_cmhk01.cm.com.hk, where cmhk01 is the hostname.
By the way, by using domain name address, the mail server must know how
to redirect the mail to corresonding host. I don't know the setup
procdure.
i.e. e-mail name is : dicky_at_cm.com.hk
pop account may be : dicky_at_cmhk03.cm.com.hk
the mail server may be located in cmhk01.
2) POP3 Deamon
We are not using 'popd' to start the POP server (the complete statement
is '/usr/lib/mh/popd -p 110 > /usr/spool/pop/popd.log 2>&1 &').
I have read some material in which it mentioned on Ver 3.2a (or b,c),
there is a deamon called 'ipop3d'. Is it right? If so, where can
I get the patch?
3) New Devices
We have ordered one more HD and a Tape Drive for our another Alpha
machine. However, it is not plug and play because the system doesn't
have the correct driver. We have tried to install OS from the begining
provided we inserted all H/W before. It worked fine because the system
created the correct device driver. My question is: How can we add (or
modify the kernal) to support new added device?
4) Firewall
We are going to use a router with 1 WAN port, 2 LAN ports to separate
the internet network from private network. We can setup apporiate
'access-list' to block the packets attact the private network. Does it
save enough?
5) Internet S/W Patch
Our machines are shipped on Feburary. Is there updated patch for
customer?
In fact, I have tried to find out those answer from local support but
failed.
Thanks & regards,
Dicky Shum
