Hello OSFfers --
I have a Alpha 3300 running OSF v2.0. I have approx 1700 total users --
the max that can log on at any given time is between 40 - 50. My alpha
has 64 meg memory.
The problem: when my system gets really busy, users trying to connect
(via telnet) to my system receive the message "all network ports in use".
I have battled with this problem in the past, and now its back. I'm not
sure where to look to solve this problem. Right now I look at all the
running jobs and kill idle ones.
I've already used ./MAKEDEV pty# to make all the ptys I can. Could one
of the many talented unix gurus reading this list please make
recommendations as to what I can do in order to free up some more telnet
ports for my users? (I admit I am a newbie!)
