Hello everyone!
My original question was how can I create accounts so users can
ftp and not telnet into my system (due to an 8 user license). There
is still a need for telnet for some users.
Answer:
I set the shell to /bin/false and added /bin/false to /etc/shells.
I tested this & it works great!
There were some other suggestions that I haven't yet tried:
1. use smrsh
2. set the shell to /bin/ftp & add /bin/ftp to /etc/shells
3. set the shell to /etc/ftponly where ftp is a script. The
script would print out a message that this is an ftp only account.
4. switch to wu-ftpd instead of DU's ftp.
Thanks to everyone who responded (& any others not mentioned):
