Hello managers,
my question was:
> we see an annoying feature (?) of /usr/bin/X11/dxterm.
>
> Whenever we start a new one it takes *time* until we are at our prompt.
> (Sometimes up to a minute or two...) On the other side when we start
> another xterm we are *nearly* without delay at our prompt.
As i know now, this was very few information, sorry :<)
Anyway the gurus of this list found the reason for my problem:
Knut.Hellebo_at_nho.hydro.com asked:
> Are you running tcsh (In that case I've seen something
> similar, at least for 6.05->)
And we do run tcsh. The command `echo $version' gives:
tcsh 6.05.00 (Cornell) 94/19/06 (alpha-dec-osf1) options 8b,nls,dl,al,rh
When i replace tcsh with /usr/bin/csh the decterm is at the prompt within
a second or two. But then i don't have line-editing with the arrow-keys
any longer :<)= ...
Btw, the reason was definitely neither NFS nor insufficient memory as
two other replies suggested.
Thanx!
