Well, DEC is teasing me with my Alphastation upgrade by sending me the PCI
HX graphics card first. I noticed that it uses what looks like a SVGA
connector on the back (3 tightly spaced rows of pins). I'm upgrading my
old DECstation 5000/240, so I'm keeping the VRT19c Sony monitor with a
screan resolution of 1280 by 1024 and either 66 or 72 hz non-interlaced
scanning. This monitor only has a set of RGB inputs with sync on green.
>From the user guide that came with the graphics card, I can set the
switches to match the scanning rate of the screen. I have a couple of
questions:
Do all SVGA cards use the same type of cable? I found an unused one in
my lab, and it has the 3-row D connector on one end and the RGB BNC
connectors on the other. This used to be for a PC. Will this work with
this card?
Does this card supply the sync signal on the green video line like the
Turbochannel HX card does? If not, I may be in need of a new monitor,
or I'll have to do without graphics, which is a real downer.
thanks in advance for any information.
