DNS(?) and other Troubles

1.) I recently added some new subnets onto some terminal servers for my
dialins. Yesterday, I noticed that people who were logged into one of those
new servers were having trouble accessing certain sites. It occured to me that
I forgot to set up my reverse DNS on my Alpha, so I did it.

However, the problem still persists. Approx. how long should it take for my
reverse DNS to take effect?

2.) I seem to be having difficulty with certain people sending email through
that same Alpha. It was working fine until today, and now, when they connect,
they are unable to pass mail through. They can retrieve but not send. What I
notice on the Alpha is that the sendmail process seems to be stuck in the
'HELO' phase before it eventually times out.

Any ideas here? I have restarted sendmail and rebooted the machine but the
problem persists.
