Missing bootup messages

A few weeks ago I posted a question concering
missing bootup messages to the syslog files.
A few people responded saying to make sure
the syslogd was running. I should have mentioned
in my original that it was running and sent
much information to the logs EXCEPT the bootup
info (i.e. info on disk devices, hardware
addresses, etc.), it just says that a shutdown and
startup occurred - nothing else. It worked fine
up until a month ago and nothing has changed.

A few people sent me mail say they experienced
the same problem - syslogd working just fine,
then out of the blue it doesn't output the
bootup messages. And they asked for a summary.
Unfortunately, nobody has come up with an answer.

DEC sent me a "bug free" syslogd but the problem
persists. Does anyone have a solution to this?
