I have a little tape utility ftp://ftp.std.com/pub/gjc/texplain.c
that I use as a diagnostic to quickly tell me what has been
written to a tape, and would like to enhance this utility with
some exact knowledge of vdump format, but have found no information on
the format used by vdump, only that used by dump.
(find /usr/include -name \*dump\* -print).

-gjc

p.s. here is what the texplain utility writes now:

# texplain -r -n 10
rewinding tape... done in 72.6146 seconds.
file nrecs min max ave bytes data
