[Q]: Usage of /etc/resolv.conf

Hi Y'all,

I have a question about this file. First, the environment,

Hardware DEC 2000-300, USR 28.8k Sportster
Software D*UNIX V3.2B, PPP V2.2 (Steve Tate's implementation).

now the question(s??)

1) I have two entries in this file,

    domain aa.com
    nameserver xx.xx.xx.xx
    domain bb.com
    nameserver yy.yy.yy.yy

Note: bindsetup did not allow me two entries in this file, it takes only
the last one.
so I put in the second using vi.

2) After PPP is setup between my machine and host aa.com, telnet to host AAA
on aa.com network requires the following syntax,

'telnet AAA.aa.com' ( I would expect just 'telnet AAA' to work...)
     'telnet AAA' returns unknown host.
     ping behaves the same way.

3) After PPP is setup between my machine and host bb.com, the following
syntax works

     'telnet BBB'
     'ping BBB'

ping with dotted-decimal IP addresses works fine on both setups.

Conclusion, only the last pair in this file is being used while using
telnet, ping etc.
BUT while getting IP address for my machine, both nameserver entries are
used
to generate the correct local IP address (as seen in
/var/adm/syslog.dated/.../daemon.log).

Is this expected behaviour? How do I work around not having to type aa.com?
There is also another keyword under 'man resolver' which says something
about 'search', can this be used and how?

.Tushar.
