Dear all,

My question was: should I switch from NFS to SAMBA for sharing files
between my PCs and the Alpha box under DU?

100% of the answers were: "YES !!! Go for it NOW !!!"

I understand from them that:

o SAMBA is free
o SAMBA is quite robust
o SAMBA works with DOS, WfW, W95, WNT and OS/2 on the PC side
o SAMBA needs only a TCP/IP stack on the PCs, which is also freely
available
from ftp.microsoft.com for DOS and WfW
o SAMBA is very easy to install
o SAMBA enables you to share not only files, but also networked printers

SAMBA is available from ftp://nimbus.anu.edu.au/pub/tridge/samba

Thank you to:

Michel Cyr, Aidan Williams, Eric Cassette, Georges Dubus and Tim Winders.
