rwhod daemon dying

Dear fellow OSF/1 managers,

We have a network of 4 DEC 3000 AXP 300's served by a
3000/600. In our environment it is useful to run the rwhod daemon.
This morning rwhod has died on several machines within a matter of
minutes. It died on the server yesterday. We can't restart it with a

        /sbin/init.d/rwho start

command, either; we must do a shutdown -r. We can't discover any
apparent reasons for this behavior (the network was not heavily loaded
at the time).

Any clues as to what is happening?
