Accounting for non ascii documents?

Dear Sirs,

I would like to know if it is possible for the OSF printer spooler to
account for the number of pages printed on an IBM Lexmark 4039 plus which is
directly connected to an alpha station executing the lpd spooler deamon.

To be more specific, we have about a hundred P.C.'s which have been
configured to use this spooler (on the alpha station) to print any type
of Windows documents (including Winword, Excell, etc). And we would
like to account for the number of pages that are being printed by each
individual on a any of the one hundred P.C.'s.

Note: The lexmark printer drivers can be used on the P.C. just as well
as the HP III laser Jet. Both work fine.

We have tried using the hplaserof filter on the if. The printout comes
out perfect but the accounting only accounts for 1 page independently of
how many pages were actually sent for printing. With text (ascii)
documents sent for printing, the accounting does work.

In case you do have some information which might help answer my question,
would you be so kind as to send it to me.

Thanks in advance,

Mauricio Solis-Granados.
