Thanks to all those who answered.
To create an aliases ip address you use the syntax
ifconfig <interface-id> alias <aliased-ip-address>
This is the syntax I am using, HOWEVER, the ifconfig does not give you any
feedback that the command completed. You need to ping the address to see
if it is working.
To make the change permanent, you need to add this command to some startup
script.
