User Administration - Opinions on how.

Hello everyone,

I have recently taken up the reigns at a company with over 60 Unix servers
throughout the organization. To my dismay I have discovered that each box
has been administered by different people and UID have always been sequentially
assigned beginning at 200. I now need to rework a great deal of user accounts
to clean up the UID namespace.

My question is what tools are other system managers using to make cross
platform user administration manageable. I have considered implementing NIS
but I have never spoke with anyone actually utilizing it to administer
accross a diverse group of servers (our major servers and DUX, SCO, HPUX, SUN,
with a splash of Ultrix, Motorola, Unixware, and QNX (the latter are very
isolated or about to be stabbed through the heart)).

I have also considered CA-Unicenter and like tools but have not begun an
in-depth analysis. Other experiences and/or recommedations for tools to
consider would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
