problems with tar under osf 3.0

Hi folks,
Under osf/1 3.0 I get segmentation errors or sometimes plain memory
erros when writing a large tar tape to a 4mm tape. It appears that
the tape is written correctly, but upoe exiting I get the error
message.

Anyone seen this?
