I used Doug Johnson's suggestion below which worked!
(added the next three lines to sendmail.cf)
Cwlocalhost
# file containing names of hosts for which we receive email
Fw/var/adm/sendmail/sendmail.cw
where /var/adm/sendmail/sendmail.cw would contain the hosts you want to
receive mail for:
host1.domain
host2.domain
other responses were similar:
You need to add the name uuheph to the Cw line in the
/var/adm/sendmail/sendmail.cf
eg.
Cwuhheph.phys.hawaii.edu
one response that I haven't tried was:
# Local (this subdomain) workstation mail that should be accepted here
# (requires MX records, too), e.g.
#CLhost1 host2
CLdirac
where 'dirac' is the name of the addressed machine.
