Dear Managers,
One of our projects for Digital UNIX has two requirements:
1. for us to ship a data collector application to Digital UNIX
customers on a portable media.
2. for the Digital UNIX customers to return the collected data
on the SAME portable media.
There is no standard portable read/write media device installed on all Digital
UNIX systems.
In the current global computing environment it is reasonable to assume
that most customers will have at least one PC connected to the Digital UNIX
computer and have the facility to copy files to/from the Digital UNIX computer.
This connection using a PC would seem to be the most common option available to
upload the System Healthcheck data collector to the Digital UNIX computer and
when the data collection has finished download the data to the PC.
The standard 1.44Mb floppy disk is the most common read/write media
available on the PC.
The proposal is that the data collector application for Digital UNIX be
shipped on PC formatted floppy disks and the documentation will detail how
to copy the file(s) from the PC on to the Digital UNIX system and how to
copy the collected data from the Digital UNIX system to the PC.
Is this an acceptable proposal ?
Is there a better alternative ?
What portable read/write media device is the most common on Digital UNIX
systems ?
thanks in advance.
Tom
