Hi,
I've got 2 3000/400s set up as an NIS master and slave and want to use
the automounter so that the slave can mount disks from the master. I can
hard mount the disks in /etc/fstab and everything works fine, users can
log on so the passwd and group files are being served OK, but if I try
to run the automounter instead it won't work.
I've followed the NIS and NFS setup procedures given in the DEC Network
Configuration manual and when running /usr/sbin/nfssetup I've used the
default answers, export filesystems listed in /etc/exports and get the
following when the deamons are started:
Would you like nfssetup to stop/start the daemons now [y]?
NFS mount daemon started
NFS export service started
NFS IO service started
NFS Locking: rpc.statd and rpc.lockd started
Mounting NFS filesystems
Unable to provide NFS automount service
***** NFSSETUP COMPLETE *****
Trying to manually start /usr/sbin/automount gives no errors but the
deamon doesn't run so it either starts and then stops immediately or
it doesn't start at all.
The AUTOMOUNT flag in /etc/rc.config is set to "1".
The master maps are /etc/auto.master and /etc/auto.direct for direct
mounting and they're linked to /var/yp/src but if I try to push them
to the slave it tells me that it's updated the maps but won't push
them. If I log on to the slave and use ypxfr to pull the maps over
I get:
Can't get master of auto.master. Reason: no such map in server's domain.
and similarly for auto.direct.
I must be missing something simple here but can't see what it is, any
help will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
John Deacon.
