I have a PC running FreeBSD in out lan which I would like to back up
using the rdump utility. No matter how I try to do it it won't fly.
On the DUnix 3.2c machine I have put the bsd in the /etc/hosts.equiv
filea and even added it to the .rhosts file for root access (I really
don't like doing that at all!). I enabled all the remote shell and cmd
services so it can do the rmt game. rmt is linked in /etc to /usr/sbin
like it should be.
When I try to fire it up from the BSD machine with the command line:
news# rdump -0uf net:/dev/rmt0h /news
DUMP: Date of this level 0 dump: Fri Jan 19 20:00:03 1996
DUMP: Date of last level 0 dump: the epoch
DUMP: Dumping /dev/rsd0s2g (/news) to /dev/rmt0h on host net
DUMP: mapping (Pass I) [regular files]
DUMP: mapping (Pass II) [directories]
DUMP: estimated 1208205 tape blocks on 31.04 tape(s).
DUMP: Protocol to remote tape server botched (code "rmt: Command not
found.").
rdump: Lost connection to remote host.
DUMP: Bad return code from dump: 1
news#
A netstat from another tty immediately after the rdump command is entered
yields:
news# netstat
Active Internet connections
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address (state)
tcp 24 0 news.1023 net.shell CLOSE_WAIT
I'm clueless about what's not happening here, once again I feel like
everything's setup properly, but the darned thing's not working.
I'll summarize any solutions.
