Last week, I fixed a long-standing problem with NFS on my LAN by turning off NFS
locking in my rc.config.
Can anybody give me a really good explanation of what this actually locks?
File, File System, or what? Also, why could my Windows For Workgroups machines
access these file systems that were "NFS Locked" but my macs and my win95
machines kept stopping my nfs v2.0 activity (socket overflows). Is the
procedure call different somehow? I was happy just to get the problem solved,
but my boss wants to know what the core problem was, and why DEC wasn't able to
help when other people have evidently experienced the same thing.
TIA!
