Hi all -
I've just added a new Alpha running DU 3.2 to our local group of
Alphas, and am in the process of "introducing" it to its new "family". It
is a member of the NIS domain with no problems - nissetup went through
without a hitch. I then tried to NFS mount the user partitions which
reside on the master and another of the machines in the group. The file
systems have been exported from both machines, and I've set up the new
member for nfs mounting of these file systems. When i try to mount, either
at the boot stage or manually through "mount -a -t nfs" I get the error
message:
>Can't access /usr/people: Permission denied
>Can't access /usr/products: Permission denied
>Can't access /usr/local: Permission denied
I'm not sure where this is coming from. I have checked each of the exporting
machines, and their /etc/exports files include the exported file systems;
I've run "showmount -e" on each of them, however, and they show only exports
to each other, and not to the new member of the group. Obviously, they're
refusing to serve the new member, but I can't figure out why. Any ideas?
Todd

If you're an archaeologist, I bet it's real embarrassing to put together a
skull from a bunch of ancient bone fragments, but then it turns out it's
not a skull but just an old dried-out potato.
