Hello all, and thanks to all that responded.

RE: Running Sybase on its own partition:
Juergen Bock wrote to say that Sybase can use a RAID partition with no
problems as it's 'below' the operating system. He also explained how
Sybase can also store its data on a mounted filesystem with less
recoverability in case of a crash due to unflushed write buffers. If the
database does not have a lot of activity and the machine is stable, using
filesystems is nicer because I could use all the normal disk and backup
tools.

Paul Rockwell and Alan Rollow agreed that RAID partitions should be
compatible with Sybase for the same reasons.

RE: Disklabel and general partition questions:

Doug Gould and Paul Rockwell and gave me a very good tutorial about
disklabel - Thanks guys!

Digital sent me a System Admin guide in 2 days! and it only cost $17 -
Thanks, 1-800-DIGITAL

I've realized that my main problem is SWXCR - I've found a reference to
the manual on the "re" man page - "EK-SWRA-1G" - Installation and
Configuration Guide for the StorageWorks RAID Array 200 Subsystem Family

Thanks again, pe
