Dear Managers,
My original post was:

Replies were received from:
Peter Kaiser (kaiser_at_heron.enet.dec.com or kaiser_at_acm.org)
"Hi ho" (mcohen_at_nrtc.northrop.com)
Andy Adamson (star_at_uclan.ac.uk)
David Barnhill (barnhill_at_oz.sunflower.org)
David Gempton (ttcdg_at_cyberspace.co.nz)
Peter Kaiser and David Gempton both recommended DECTalk (which
I believe we have a license for and so may try).
"Hi ho" suggested using a PC with text-to-speech capability.
A good suggestion; I had neglected to specify that our problem
occurred precisely because of a breakdown in our campus PC intended
for that purpose and I was looking for a fast way around the problem.
Andy Adamson supplied the following URL (which does this
conversion for its maintainer):
http://www.inference.com/~hansen/talk.html
Finally, David Barnhill suggested talking to the Special
Education Department at the University of Kansas.
chaffin_at_quest.sped.ukans.edu was a suggested starting point.
Thanks to all who replied!
