Hello, can you give me a hand with this? I am trying to print through the
serial/rs-232 port at the back of an alpha 3000/300x. I've used lprsetup,
followed by lpc up, but I can't get anything to print.
Specific questions:
When lprsetup asks for a device, what should I use? /dev/printer? /dev/tty00?
/dev/tty01? or some other /dev/device?
I pinched the deskjet from an apple user. It has a din connection instead of
a 24 pin D. I believe it is a serial connection, correct me if I'm wrong.
Can someone send me a printcap entry for the deskwriter?
How does the alpha know that output is to go through the serial port? This
is related to the questions about devices above, I guess.
Lastly, we have no manual for this printer, so any extra tips you can give me
are almost certainly useful.
Thanks for any help you can give me. You'll save me several trips up and
down stairs if we get the printer working. (On the other hand, I could use
the exercise.)
