news DB on an AdvFS, backup

dear managers,

we have news database >1GB (>380000 articles) on an AdvFS fileset.
we use "vdump" incrementally to backup the database. this process takes
more than 12 hours and i started wondering what is the most efficient method of
doing this.
        what tools do you use to backup news database? (if any)
        do you find "vdump" somewhat slow? (i use blcksize 60K )
