How do I print to a color printer ?

Hi.


        I know that if you have an ascii printer, you send it ascii,
and if you have a postscript printer, you send it postscript, but if
you have a color printer (not postscript), what do you send it ? Is
there one thing for all printers (say bmp, for example), or does each
printer need something else ?
