On 26th Jan I posted something of a diatribe about the difficulties in getting
hold of Digital Unix to run on EB164 boards. I received several replies
suggesting that I might be talking to the wrong people; unfortunately here in
the UK there appears to be precisely one company authorised to sell EB164
systems in small quantities, and there's nobody else to talk to.
By far the most helpful reply was from Tom Blinn, who was able to give me a
great deal of background information. He told me the part number for the Unix
licence (QL-MT4AG-6K). We asked our supplier to look this up in the world
price list, and QL-MT4AG-6* only went up to J, so here it looks like a case of
a new product available in the USA but not yet in Europe. This may have
changed by now of course.
We know that we would need "SRM console firmware", but on this there seemed to
be a total information blockage and I still don't have any detailed
information.
For practical purposes we have given up on the idea. We know that Digital Unix
licences aren't cheap, and Tom hinted that the SRM console firmware carried a
"hefty price tag". Since running Digital Unix on these systems would have been
merely a convenience and not an essential part of the project, we decided to
order just the bare hardware.
