We have a bunch of InfoServer-based VXTs with 10MB of memory each.
When certain pages are loaded (e.g. http://www.penthousemag.com/ ;->),
whole terminal hangs for a loong time, and such events as focus
change when you move mouse are processed infinitely delayed.
Sometimes the only solution is to kill -9 netscape from the other
terminal and then wait few minutes.

I tried to track down the problem and found that only bitmapped
background is the problem. I mean gifs and jpgs are no problem,
provided they are small and repeating (background tiles) or in
separate windows. If the window is open you can see the picture
drawn pixel line by pixel line, if the window is iconified you can
see nothing and the whole terminal freezes. Also, when Netscape
starts, terminal freezes while button pics are loaded.

This *IS* the problem for us, as even our institute home page can
freeze terminals (due to university logo). XV works without problems.

   Technical data:

Netscape Navigator: 1.2 and 2.0 (but not 1.1!)
hosts: DEC Alpha with Digital Unix 3.0, Sun with SunOS 5.4
        InfoServer software: the newest one
VXT-2000 with 10MB of RAM, VXT software 2.1
tvtwm and clear background (no root picture)

pfs.

P.S.: The copy of this mail was sent to Netscape.
