Hi all,
I have posted another question to this great list yesterday about
accessing a ETH. LAN comprising of two Alphas (3000/600 with OSF/1 3.2
and 3000/300 with OSF/1 2.0). I forgot to mention that apart from the
two Alphas the small LAN that I administer has also attached a Dec
Brouter 90T2 with two serial ports and a Dec Server 90TL
with 8 serial ports.
My intention is to connect to only one of these two host machines (the
3000/600) from a remote side (PC+MODEM+XWINDOWS EMULATION S/W)and run
the x-windows applications situated on this machine. I intend to use a
14.4 Sportster Modem on the LAN side which, reading some messages in
this list, seems suitable.
My question is:
>From the options that follow, which is the most painless way to achieve
this connection? And also for which is the simplest to configure SLIP or
PPP with any of the following options:
1. Connecting the modem to the Alpha's (3000/600) serial port directly?
2. Connecting the modem to one of the 8 ports on the DecServer 90TL?
3. Connecting the modem to the second port of the decbrouter 90T2?(since
the first one is already used and configured for x.25)
If anyone can help me out please do. I will immediately post a proper
summary (as I have already solved a lot of other problems that I had
through these summaries).
