Dear managers,
I'm actually dealing with a *BIG* problem on a new
machine we have recently acquired for departmental services.
The machine is an AlphaServer 1000 4/233 running an unpatched
version of DU. 3.2C (128 MB RAM - 512 MB SWAP). Typical services
are Internet applications, editing and educational support for
various laboratories.
The machine is pretty unstable reporting at various intervals
a kernel memory access violation with the machine hanging up
(no kernel dump and no more activity). Until now it has been
impossible to find some correlation with number of users, number
of processes, number of hours since last boot and so on. You
can expect this every time (0 or 35 users), (one hour after
boot or 24 days [maximum interval]) and ...
Any suggestions from the net (eventually, any suggestions on
how to obtain a kernel dump) ???
Thanks a lot [I'll summarize]
Marco Campani
