Thank's to everyone who took the time to answer my request(s) !
Many pointed out that i was using the wrong syntax at the console
prompt. But this was not the real problem. This was a way to reproduce
the problem. Firmware 6.0 let you use lowercase with the "fi flag" of
the console boot command. (6.4 doesn't let you do so anymore !!!)
The real problem was that, under normal operation (booted kernel =
vmunix), if a crash of the OS occured or if the command "reboot" was
typed; the system would HANG with :
...
INIT-S-MEM...
INIT-S-NVR...
INIT-S-SCC...
INIT-S-NI...
INIT-S-SCSI...
INIT-S-ISDN...
AUDIT_BOOT_STARTS ...
AUDIT_CHECKSUM_GOOD
AUDIT_LOAD_BEGINS
AUDIT_LOAD_DONE
OSF boot - Mon Jul 24 21:56:39 EDT 1995
can't open VMUNIX
Enter [kernel_name] [option_1 ... option_n]:
Waiting for you to type the name of the kernel. A return at that post
is OK !
AXP Firmware upgrade to 6.4 AND PMAF-FU to 3.0U solved that one !
A TIP : If you install a 100 Mbits DEFTA-UA make sure you have
Firmware update 3.4 not too far. If you don't, than just hard
link /VMUNIX to /vmunix till you find the CD.
