I wanted to know how to tell CDE about the Spanish keyboards
on our alphas. I asked:

> How do I tell CDE that we have Spanish keyboards on our Alphas? I've got as
> far as working out I need to set the LC_CTYPE environment variable, but when
> I run locale -a I get
> POSIX
> en_US.ISO8859-1
> as the only choices. So where do I get the information to set this to some
> other value? Also, how do I get other choices apart from 'C' to appear in
> the list in the login screen?

It turned out to be simple - just make sure the
link /var/X11/xdm/keymap_default is set to the correct keymap.
Many thanks to Tom Woodburn of the CDE team at DEC for that
insight. Thanks also to the others who offered me advice.
I was, and still am, a little confused about what locales and environment
variables like LC_CTYPE are for, if not for changing the keyboard settings
I suppose they change the language in which menus appear, etc?

Finally, I'd like to congratulate the CDE team at DEC for an excellent
product - now our users prefer using our Alphas screens to our HPs running
VUE!
