After I issued the first summary, several people wrote to say they had
situations similar to mine and had no problem. I cannot explain that.
I did some further tests: I tried running Netscape 2.0 on the DU 3.2
box but instead of my Ultrix 4.4 workstation as the X server, I used a
colleague's RS6000 workstation. Netscape issued a complaint about not finding
some font and then it again dropped core with a segmentation fault.
I then found a different platform with a Netscape 2.0 on it. This is an
HP9000/735 running HP-UX. I ran Netscape there with my original Ultrix
workstation as the X server. It works fine.
My conclusion: there is something wrong with the DU binary for Netscape 2.0
that prevents it from running in this mode - something that was NOT wrong with
Netscape 1.12.
For now, I'm using the HP for Netscape. What's the world coming to?
