unix 'talk'

Hello everyone,

I would like to hear from other educational sites out there regrading use
of the unix 'talk' command on their academic systems (for use by
students/faculty).

We've had talk turned off on our Digital Unix system because of a bug
at release 2.1B which I believe is fixed now (3.2b currently installed).
I hesitate, however, at puting it back on-line as it gets abused and
consumes a lot of overhead.

Also, if you currently have talk (talkd) shut off, do you have similar
software which accomplishes the same (i.e. two-way simultaneous
communication) loaded on your network?

Thanks,

Brad
