SUMMARY: Q: "/: file system full" installing Oracle ...

Thanks to all! The basic view seems to be that I should focus on the
"/" in the message (I was focusing on "/:", and wondering what kind of directory
that was rather than realizing the colon was punctuating the message
text--duhhh...), and that most likely the tmp directory being mounted under /
was what was filling up. Apparently, it would get cleaned out shortly
afterwards so that by the time we checked from elsewhere, "df" did not show
anything full. Since Oracle uses lots of tmp space during installs, we should
either set one of its parameters to use space on another file system with more
free space, or create tmp on another file system with more space.

Again, thanks, and I will try to get a more complete summary together with due
acknowledgements to all contributors...gotta run.

Rory

We get that message at several stages of installing Oracle 7.2.3 on an
AlphaStation 200. Does anybody have any clues?

     Will summarize; tia,
