Netscape/java/javascript

We have experienced some "problems" with the later versions of netscape.
Java (and javascript) has a tendency to grab what it can of CPU time
and let other processes stall.
Java can be globally disabled by removing the file called moz2_0.zip
from where netscape expects to find it (typically /usr/local/lib/netscape).
The impact of javascript can
be ameliorated by e.g. letting /usr/local/bin/netscape be a script
that starts the binary in a very low priority.
The app-defaults file doesn't provide an option to disable neither
Java nor Javascript.
This isn't too bad, but I would really like an elegant way to disable
anything that looks like java without having netscape run on low priority.
I guess Netscape could answer this question, but do they have any interests
in doing so?
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
