Hi,

Yesterday I asked :

Today our Alpha Server crashed *again*. But , fortunately this time it
gave a reason(like?) message at /var/adm/crash like ;

_cpu: 30
_system_string: 0xfffffc0000604cc8 = "DEC3000 - M500"
_ncpus: 1
_avail_cpus: 1
_partial_dump: 1
_physmem(MBytes): 128
_panic_string: 0xfffffc00005ff0a0 = "kernel memory fault"
_preserved_message_buffer_begin:
struct {
    msg_magic = 0x63061
    msg_bufx = 0x755
    msg_bufr = 0x50f
    msg_bufc = "task table is full
<3>task table is full
<3>task table is full
<3>task table is full
<3>task table is full

...

I think this is the reason. Do you have any idea how to manage this ?
Whats optimum values for task table value and where from can I change it ?
Sincerely.
murat.

Have you tried increasing maxusers in the kernel config file and
rebuilding the kernel?

See System Administration manual for more details.

The crash may or may not have been caused by task table full; actually, I
doubt it was, since this usually won't cause a crash. It just happened to
be occurring at the same time at the crash, so it was in the message buffer
at the time.

To fix the task table full, increase your value for maxusers and rebuild the
kernel.

To get more help on the crash, try posting the stack trace from the crash
(which is also in the crash-data.n file.)
